About Dhangethi
Discover Dhangethi, a jewel in the South Ari Atoll, renowned for its proximity to world-class dive sites and the opportunity to swim with whale sharks. This lush island, framed by idyllic white sands and the clear blue of the Indian Ocean, invites you to experience the ultimate in Maldivian beauty.
Adh Dhangethi, affectionately known as Moon Island, unveils a captivating local legend. In Dhivehi, 'Handhu' signifies 'moon,' and 'Runbaa' means 'jar.' The tale recounts a group of fishermen who, during a night fishing expedition, were mesmerized by the moon's reflection in a jar of water aboard their vessel.
They presented this 'moon' to the king, a gesture of honor. Upon reaching Malé and presenting the jar, the moon mysteriously vanished, much to the king's surprise.
This endearing story, one of several versions, is a source of pride for Dhangethi's residents. Visitors are warmly encouraged to hear the full legend from the locals themselves, adding a unique cultural dimension to their island experience.
Its prime location provides unparalleled, year-round opportunities to encounter majestic whale sharks and graceful manta rays, promising unforgettable underwater adventures.
